Bio

Ross Brown is a musician currently home-based, living and working in Key West, FL. Ross' primary instruments are guitar, percussion and voice. 

Originally from the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, Ross was raised on Blues, Classic Rock, Funk and R&B. Ross grew up in Allentown, playing in original alternative hard rock bands “Aixelsyd” and “Pendulum” and cutting his teeth with his father’s blues band “Kosmic Blue”, going to blues jams and taking lessons.   Ross moved to Philadelphia to study computer information systems and music at Drexel University. While living in Philadelphia Ross was exposed to more jazz, funk, r&b, soul and latin sounds, working with and learning from so many fabulous musicians that make up the fabric of the Philadelphia musician community. Ross worked with various bands around the greater Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York, Delaware and Washington D.C. areas. Most notable bands were the “Philadelphia Funk Authority”,  “Mustafa Akbar and Chosen” (out of D.C.), and his own original projects most recently called “Fuzilla”. 

An intrepid traveler, Ross has journeyed through Jamaica, Costa Rica, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico as well as Hong Kong, Paris and Barcelona and all over the U.S. The exposure to various cultures can be heard in his diverse musical stylings. Somewhat fluent in Spanish, Ross sings lead and back up harmony vocals in English and Spanish. He has made multiple tours in Costa Rica with bands “Tour de Funk” and “Macana” entertaining tourists and locals in surf towns. Ross has developed a repertoire with an expansive wide variety and eclectic mix of songs and genre bending twists to cover music. There is something for everyone in the mix of material. Ross has a knack for reading a crowd and delivering entertainment appropriate for his audience. 

Ross performs solo on nylon string acoustic guitar, singing, playing congas and other percussion and utilizing live looping techniques. As a duo with second lead players on steel pan, guitar, or vocals. Ross also performs with bands on electric guitar. Rhythmically oriented, Ross also works as a percussionist in auxiliary to a set drummer or as the primary drummer / percussionist in a combination. 

Genres include funk, rock, R&B, reggae, soul, jazz, Carribean, Latin as well as modern pop..

With his band “Cayo Ritmo” Ross brings more Caribbean sounds of reggae, cha-cha, calypso, soca...

Ross can be seen performing solo, duo or with full band and in various combinations of musicians in Key West and elsewhere.
